Marine Engineering Superintendent Jobs Nelson, Marlborough & Tasman, New Zealand, August2013

We are looking for an experienced technical leader to steer marine engineering services for our fishing fleet. Advising a team of Chief Engineers and other marine engineering staff (including Factory Engineers and Fish Meal Plant Operators) you will make a significant contribution to the safe and effective operation of our vessels through:

Scheduling and supervising planned and unplanned repairs, maintenance and dry dockings
Providing technical advice to Vessel Engineers, Fleet Harvest Manager and Skippers
Managing vessel engineering operational budgets to ensure effective use of resources
Identifying new technologies to optimise vessel performance
Planning, reviewing and reporting on marine engineering projects from safety, quality and financial perspectives
Accountability for the class status of the vessels.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn from our current Marine Engineering Superintendent, who is transitioning into retirement and is keen to hand over the rudder to an experienced leader with the following skills, knowledge and experience:

Significant mechanical engineering background at an operational and diagnostic level with diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical and refrigeration
Practical expertise with marine propulsion systems
Sea going experience
Hold a MEC 4 qualification or higher
Managing an operational budget
Strong problem resolution skills
Project management expertise
Demonstrated ability to develop trust relationships and credibility
Computer literate
Ability to work a variety of hours on call, to support vessels
Willing and able to travel overseas when required.
